The Brick Oven – (formerly of Devon House) is located at 2a-2d Suthermere Road – has become synonymous with freshly baked, traditional, home-style delicacies. It is the first place that returning residents, as well as visitors in search of “good eats” and locals with an appetite for tasty fares rush to. And, on any given day, the Brick Oven can expect a steady flow of patrons, as the smell of pastries fresh from the oven draw them into the bakery.

The entrepreneur behind this 21-year-old success story is Catherine Radlein, whose passion for creating the highest quality products have won her scores of faithful patrons who cannot get enough of such Jamaican staples as potato pudding, corn pone, plantain tarts as well as patties with such fillings as chicken, beef, shrimp and lobster.

In fact, the Brick Oven was one of the first delicatessens to introduce a fish patty and a variety of tortes packed with such luscious local fruit flavours such as mango, passion fruit and tamarind – all of which have found favour with patrons.

And in response to the needs of the market, the Brick Oven produces many of their pastry items in bite sizes for cocktail parties and other special occasions.

Then there is the internationally-renowned Brick Oven Easter Bun which puts a smile on the face of any Jamaican living abroad who gets a branded box containing the traditional sweet, aromatic delight from a relative or friend from home.
